Z kart historii Gdańsk Maraton

The first Gdańsk Marathon took place on 17 May 2015 under the name PZU Gdańsk Marathon, with 1,825 runners, including 277 women, finishing the first edition of the event. The previous six editions of the race have been completed by over 11,000 runners, including almost 2,000 women.

In the first edition of the Gdańsk Marathon, the fastest were Piotr Szpigiel (2:37:27) and Ewa Huryń (3:03:41). The third edition of the Gdańsk Marathon was the most numerous, with 2,375 runners finishing.

In the previous six editions, Rafał Czarnecki triumphed three times (2017, 2018, 2019), and this runner also holds the Gdańsk Marathon course record, which is 2:23:14.

Among the women, the fastest in 2019 was Rafał Czarnecki’s wife – Lidia Czarnecka, who covered 42,195 in 2:49:05. Among the women, it is also worth mentioning the first winner of the Gdańsk Marathon, Ewa Huryń, who won in Gdańsk twice in 2015 and 2016.

Since the third edition of the Gdańsk Marathon, four-person marathon relay teams have been introduced to the competition, which have always been very popular among runners. 2019 was a record year in this respect, when over 200 relay teams reported to the finish line.
