On Sunday, April 6, Gdańsk will once again become the arena for one of the most important running events in Poland. During a press conference just before the start of the Gdańsk Marathon, Martyna Waśniewska and Florian Pyszel , who is aspiring to triumph among men, spoke about their chances of winning the race. Adam Korol , director of the office of the mayor of Gdańsk for sports and representatives of organizers, sponsors and partners event held under the slogan “Run in the City of Freedom!”

GREAT INTEREST AMONG RUNNERS AND EXTENDED EVENT FORMULA
We developed the marathon route together with the city. I would like to thank the President, Mr. Adam Korol and Mr. President Borawski for their support and the Traffic Management Office for their cooperation. Gdańsk Marathon presents the most beautiful places in the city, and at the same time we did everything to minimize disruptions for residents. For example, when competitors run around Nowy Port, residents will still be able to exit via Oliwska, Gdańska and al. Hallera. From 11:30, Marynarki Polskiej Street will be open and there will be no disruptions in the district. The greatest disruptions will occur on Chłopska and Rzeczypospolitej Streets, but there too we will only occupy one carriageway towards Sopot – the road towards the center of Gdańsk will remain passable. We have also prepared 11 cheering zones, including 3 zones of our partner – Energa, and one zone of Trójmiasto.pl. A grassroots neighborhood support zone was created by the Zaspa-Rozstaje district council,
which we are exceptionally proud of, because we want to show the friendly face of the marathon – it’s not just about closing the streets, but about celebrating together and promoting physical activity. We invite everyone to support us!” – emphasized Adam Greczyło – director of Gdańsk Marathon 2025 .
The marathon race returns to the streets of Gdańsk after a two-year break in an expanded formula. In addition to the individual race over a distance of 42 kilometers and 195 meters, 4-person relay teams will also start. Part of the Gdańsk running festival will also be a 5-kilometer competition and the Junior Gdańsk Marathon for the youngest running enthusiasts.
– This will be a record marathon in terms of the number of runners. Even though we are returning to Gdańsk after a three-year break, we have 2,800 participants. Almost 1,800 people will run in the marathon, including six hundred from Gdańsk. We will also have many guests from abroad, from 19 countries, including Great Britain, Portugal, Greece, Germany and Sweden. There will be 126
marathon relay teams at the start, and we also managed to practically fill the 5 km limit. – said Adam Korol, who will be one of the relay members during Sunday’s race.

FAVORITES TO WIN
The attractive route and date of the marathon encouraged many successful competitors to take part. Among the favorites to win in Gdańsk are certainly Martyna Waśniewska and Florian Pyszel , who were present at the press conference and whose personal best in the marathon distance is 2:19:18, which is almost four minutes better than the current record of the Gdańsk event.
– I started preparations in January. I have three months of intense training behind me. I really want to show myself well in Gdańsk, the city where I live every day and with which I identify very much – emphasized Florian Pyszel .
– I’m optimistic. I hope I’ll be able to achieve my goals and run the distance under three hours. I’ve had a successful performance in the half marathon in Pruszcz Gdański, I managed to get down to a little under an hour and a half, and if it wasn’t for my coach, who ran with me and
slowed me down a bit, I think it could have been even better – said Martyna Waśniewska with a smile.

PROMOTION OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
In addition to the competition of elite marathon runners, the two-day event will also include a 5-kilometer run and the Junior Gdańsk Marathon at distances adapted to the age of the participants.
– We promote the city of Gdańsk as a space that supports a healthy lifestyle and physical activity. The marathon is the culmination of many months of preparations, but the accompanying events are equally important to us: competitions for children and youth, a 5 km run and a relay race – assured the mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, during the January press conference announcing the return of the marathon.and these words have lost none of their relevance.
