Record attendance at the 7th Gdańsk Marathon

Almost 3,000 runners from 19 countries took part in the 7th edition of the Gdańsk Marathon, which took place on April 6, 2025. Despite the low temperature and windy weather, the competition attracted a record number of participants. The fastest runner was Florian Pyszel from Gdańsk (Brooks Team) with a time of 2:20:25, breaking the previous course record by almost 3 minutes. Katarzyna Chojnacka from UKS Orkan Środa Wielkopolska triumphed among women (2:57:35). The event returned after a two-year break, confirming the status of Gdańsk as an important running center in Poland.

THERE IS NO BAD WEATHER FOR RUNNING

Unfavorable weather and low temperature did not discourage runners from taking part. Individually and in 4-person relays, in the 5-kilometer race and in the Junior Gdańsk Marathon held on Saturday, a total of almost 3,000 participants took part.

When we returned to the organization of the event after a two-year break, I had slight concerns whether the runners had not forgotten about us. However, the high turnout showed that the running community was waiting for the marathon to return to Gdańsk. It was a record-breaking event in terms of the number of participants. 1,800 people from 19 countries signed up to take part in the marathon, of which about six hundred were from Gdańsk. In addition, there were over 120 relay teams and almost 500 participants in the 5-kilometer run – said Adam Greczyło from Energy Events , director of Gdańsk Marathon 2025.k Maraton 2025.

THE FAVORITES DID NOT DISAPPOINT

Thank you all for your support, because without the fans we definitely wouldn’t have this result. I think we showed today that there is no better place to run than Gdańsk – said Florian Pyszel right after the finish line , who with a time of 2:20:25 improved the event record of Rafał Czarnecki by almost 3 minutes – he finished today’s marathon in 3rd place.

I am very happy with the result. Especially since it was really hard today, some parts of the route were very windy, but the fans gave me a lot of strength to accelerate. I think the wind took 40-50 seconds off my final result, so there was a great chance to break 2:20. I definitely have much bigger ambitions than just winning races in the Tri-City. However, I will always start here, because I really like the atmosphere and organization of these races – added Czarnecki .

The fastest among the women, Katarzyna Chojnacka, was overjoyed just after crossing the finish line, but also very surprised and amazed by her success.

I’m shocked that I won here. I thought I was running second, because I was convinced that I saw a girl in front of me. I stuck to the pacemakers for three hours. So I ran calmly, at an even pace, because I was a bit afraid of cramps in this temperature. The beginning was loose, I ran in a group, so I was sheltered from the wind. Today’s run was practically without crises, I had everything under control. The last climb was a bit difficult, but fortunately the wind was not as strong as we thought. Only positives today – said Chojnacka .
